It was in 1883 in Brive that grateful Companions founded an Old Society. Companions of all Reunited Duties In 1884, a document recounting the festivities celebrating their first anniversary, he published a list of 31 members.
This company joined a first Companion Federation of the same name formed in Lyon in 1874 by two Caisses de Secours Mutuel merged in 1872, one dating from 1842 the other from 1864, with twenty-nine companies to which thirty-four companies of Companions in operation will join.
This Federation will become the Companion Union of the Companions of the Tour de France Des Devoirs Gathered at a congress held in Paris in Sept. 1889, formalized by a state decree in 1896, the name: « United Duties » was adopted in Toulouse in 1899.
With the law and decree of 1901 the company will become a Union of Registered Associations.
This Society is very active, in 1893 it established a Protecting Society of Apprentices
In 1899 these Companions decided to build a building they called « The Labour Hotel » to host the Itinerants. Animated by an unrivalled enthusiasm, in a great spirit of solidarity and self-denial they will realize this beautiful building. Some are patrons, Celestin Lafeuille in particular gives the ground, others bring all their courage and know-how, people from civil society such as the Deputy of the time as well as sympathizers make generous donations. In any case these days we are admiring for the « Prejudice » which they have made, witness of their faith. We can only be grateful to them for leaving us « this good » which is currently their headquarters, « our Cayenne » at 17 bis Avenue Firmin Marbeau in Brive.
The Companion Union of Brive has always volunteered and free evening classes to its members, and opened them to any public which allowed it to co-opt interested young people. These evening classes still exist today, they are taught with the same spirit by volunteers.
The Companions will decide in early 1988 to create a Vocational Training Centre Continue at their headquarters, then they will rent twice larger premises, and then buy another one which they will exchange at the beginning of 1994 for their current site.
Currently, the Centre is managed independently of the Companion's activities by a Steering Committee which defines its policy, a Director is responsible for its implementation.
The Companion Union of BRIVE, by this method of operation, benefits a much wider public of its formations, finds ways to ensure its sustainability and offers to those who are motivated and interested a bridge to the Companion.
