The Companion past of Toulon is rich, since the 19th century many traces prove the presence of the Companions. As early as 1825/26, the companion agitation won Toulon (brewer strike). In 1827. The wood spinners of Marseille and Toulon compete for the precedence of a city of Devoirs (i.e. a city where one can receive it) and constitute a Cayenne in Toulon. In 1830 they formed one of the first welfare and protection societies called the Union; the members met instead of the Foin in the inn of the widow Maurel.

In Toulon, the town of Basard and then of Devoirs, there are many companion trades: stone tailor, carpenter, marine carpenter, shoemaker, sailboat, cordier, glassmaker...

« L » press organ of the time in 1838 depicts the show of workers driving to one of their Companions of the Devoir leaving on the Tour de France.

Let us mention some names of Companions which marked their actions, this time: the carpenter Seynois Jaume, Provençal la Fleur d'Amour whom Agricol Perdiguier met in Toulon on 12 August 1840 and who wanted to destroy the Companion, he was reasoned by Avignonnais la Vertu and was now the undisputed engine of the reforms; The shoemaker Joseph Laugier, Toulonnais le Genie, installed in La Roquebrussanne, author of songs for the reconciliation of the Devoirs, the baker Trajan called La Victoire de Toulon, organizer of the strike of 1826.

The latest findings on archival documents tell us that the Companion remained in Toulon until 1940. Indeed, Companions on the Tour de France wrote to a titin bar keeper on Rue Vincent-Courdouan, and sent their loving memories to the Companions and Mother Titoun. The companionship lasted in Toulon until 1940.

It was in the 1980s that a desire to re-establish the Companions of the Tour de France began. Supported and assisted by the then Municipality, for the rehabilitation of our headquarters, it ended, after 6 years of work on 8 November 1986 by the inauguration and opening of our Cayenne.
