It was under the impulse of the Companions Louis FAVART "Périgord l'Ami du Progrès", Tanneur-Corroyeur, and Émile LABORIE "Agenis the Crown of the Trait", Charpentier, born the Cayenne of FUMEL on 21 September 1895.

Its growth was rapid. In the early years of the 20th century, the Cayenne had some 30 companions. One of them: Félix LAVILLE, "Parisien la Bonne Conducté", mechanic, founded within the Cayenne "the Society Protector des Apprentis" which will train the apprentices of the Fumélois in the trades of metallurgy such as moulders, founders, blacksmiths, mechanics, as well as carpenters and typists.

Until the 1970s, the Cayenne is a real hive. But from these years on, its activity linked to the local economy, slowly vanished as the Fumel factory (Fonderie Pontamousson) took on its part the training of its workers. However, other men continue to support this Cayenne, the Pays Delluc, Campagnac, and more recently the Pays Musqui and Daddi.

Over the past 15 years, it has experienced a new boom, supported by new companions encouraged by the accession of several young people. A specifications for the renovation of the building and the organization of further training courses are being put in place.

Today, even though there are still a few works to be done, the Cayenne has its beautiful facade, Waldeck-Rousseau Street, behind which are permanently exposed, old and recent masterpieces. Inside, a modern kitchen continues to be fitted out, forge and foundry workshops are renovated and a companion museum awaits visitors on the first floor.

La Cayenne de Fumel is part of a series of companion stages on the Beau Tour de France.

The Companions of Fumel ardently want their city to be again a true stage on the Tour de France. For this purpose, courses are given by the Companions: stone carving, tracing in boiler-making and computer initiation.

In the near future, cooking classes will be provided in the brand new laboratory.

These courses are free of charge and are intended for the Companion's young people, but also for all those who, young or old, simply wish to improve in their profession or prepare a CAP or Master's degree.
