History of the Cayenne de Pézenas: the first Cayenne in the Hérault was opened in Montpellier at 7 boulevard Pasteur on 20 and 21 March 1976. The Companions then moved in 2016 to Pézenas, the city of Art and History.
La Cayenne is located in the city on the BUTTE DU CHÂTEAU. The House belongs to the City and the Companions have done many works to accommodate the homeless (possibility to accommodate three people).
Pézenas is located in the Occitanie region in the plain of the river l-Herault, about 20 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, 51 kilometers west of Montpellier and 23 kilometers east of Béziers.
Concerning the Butt of the Castle:
The Castle Butt is a place full of history. The oldest document relating to the castle dates back to 990: Guillaume's will, Viscount de Béziers and Agde (« the estate of Pézenas, with its tower, its fortifications and the church of Saint Peter).
Today, there is only the house built at the foot of the upper hill, surrounded by a garden with a water buffet, a greenhouse, a gazebo and a chapel, which is probably owed to Joseph Hebrail, notary in Pézenas, who acquired it in 1802.
In 1900, a castle was dug in the upper part of the hill.
The Butte du château remains a green setting in the heart of town.
